The Detroit Catholic Central High School Esports team had a remarkable season in the 2023 Fall Super Smash Brothers Ultimate State Championship. Held at Oakland University's Habitat area and hosted by the Michigan High School Esports League (MHSEL), it was a thrilling ride for the team. With an unbeaten streak of 13-0, they were unstoppable, culminating in a showdown against their Catholic League rivals, Divine Child.

In an epic clash, CC's Smash team secured a flawless 3-0 victory over Divine Child in the championship match. It was a moment of pure triumph for Noah Brady, Lance Toma, who will be heading to Concordia University - Ann Arbor to continue his Smash and academic career.

What's even more impressive is that CC was the only team with two squads in the tournament. Alongside their Smash team, CC also fielded a Rocket League team, who made it to the State Semi-Finals against Hartland. Though they fought hard, Hartland ultimately clinched victory with a 3-1 score, ending CC's Rocket League run.

On another front, the CC Valorant squad traveled to the University of Michigan - Flint for the Michigan High School Esports Federation (MiHSEF) playoff tournament. After a thrilling start in the first round, they went head-to-head with Divine Child. Despite a valiant effort, CC's Valorant team narrowly missed out with a final score of 2-1, bringing their playoff journey to an end.

Despite the ups and downs, the Detroit Catholic Central High School's Esports program showcased incredible talent and resilience throughout the season. Their triumphant victory in the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate State Championship speaks volumes about their committment to excellence, proving that they're a force to be reckoned with in the high school Esports scene.

With the win, the Smash team has qualified for the 2024 PlayVS Cup National Championship sometime between April and May (more details to follow soon).
