FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Detroit Catholic Central High School Named 2024 CHSL School of the Year

NOVI, MI — April 5, 2024 — Detroit Catholic Central High School is honored to announce its recognition as the 2024 Detroit Catholic High School League (CHSL) School of the Year. The CHSL James Leary School of the Year Award is presented annually to the league school that best exemplifies spirit, sportsmanship, and cooperation. Established in 1980, this award celebrates excellence in both athletic achievement and character.

The CHSL School of the Year distinction reflects the dedication and passion exhibited by the entire Detroit Catholic Central community, from students to faculty to supporters. Through their collective efforts, Detroit Catholic Central has consistently embodied the principles of sportsmanship and camaraderie, setting a standard of excellence for others to follow. This is the third time Detroit Catholic Central has been recognized with the award, as it was also named School of the Year in 1983 and 2013.

In addition to the school's outstanding achievement, Detroit Catholic Central is proud to announce that two members of its community will be inducted into the CHSL Hall of Fame this year.

Mike Anderson, Head Coach of Golf for Detroit Catholic Central, has been an integral part of the school's golf success for the past 14 years. Under his leadership, the golf program has flourished, securing numerous championships and accolades. Anderson's impressive track record includes 6 CHSL titles (2012, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2023), 5 Regional Championships (2013, 2016, 2017, 2023), 2 State Finalists (2014, 2021), and an impressive 4 State Championships (2015, 2016, 2017, 2022) in Division 1 of the MHSAA. Beyond his coaching endeavors, Anderson continues to excel in his own golfing career, winning the 38th GAM Mid-Amateur Championship in 2020.

Joey Kamish '19 will also be honored with induction into the CHSL Hall of Fame. Kamish left a significant mark on the legacy of the lacrosse program at Catholic Central. Kamish recorded 214 goals and had 124 assists (338 points) during his three-year varsity career, and was a 3-time All Catholic League (2017, 2018, 2019), 3-time 1st Team All State (2017, 2018, 2019), and 2-time US Lacrosse All American (2018, 2019). Additionally, Kamish also won the 2018 MLive Detroit Lacrosse Player of the Year award, and was the first player from Catholic Central to be named "Mr. Lacrosse" in 2019 as Michigan's High School Lacrosse Player of the Year. In 2018, Kamish played a pivotal role in leading Catholic Central to the 2018 CHSL Title and the school's first MHSAA State Championship in 2018.

Kamish committed to Loyola University, Maryland, where he has spent the past five years playing for the Greyhounds. To date, he has played 50 games with Loyola, registering 34 starts, 52 goals, and 29 assists (81 points). He was a member of the 2021 Loyola team that made the NCAA tournament, and his goal for this year is to win the Patriot League and make the 2024 NCAA tournament again. Kamish's achievements extend beyond lacrosse, as he has also earned a mechanical engineering degree with honors and is currently pursuing an MBA, all while continuing to excel as a member of the lacrosse team.

Detroit Catholic Central High School extends its heartfelt congratulations to both Mike Anderson and Joey Kamish for their well-deserved induction into the CHSL Hall of Fame. Their contributions to the school's athletic legacy and their ongoing successes serve as inspiration to current and future generations of Shamrocks.
