The Detroit Catholic Central Varsity Soccer team kicked off their season in strong fashion with a convincing 3–1 victory over rival De La Salle.
First Half: Early Breakthrough, Late Response
The Shamrocks struck first when Luke Peters showcased his composure in front of goal. A well-placed ball from Santi Garcia took an unexpected bounce off a defender, springing Peters free on a breakaway. With only the keeper to beat, Peters coolly chipped the ball into the net to give CC the early lead.
Just before halftime, De La Salle found their equalizer. A breakaway chance forced Ralu Ibegbu to track back and make up ground, but his last-ditch challenge in the box resulted in a penalty. De La Salle converted from the spot to even the score at 1–1 heading into the break.
Second Half: Shamrocks Take Control
Catholic Central dominated the second half with crisp passing and relentless attacking play. The go-ahead goal came from Zach Zahr, who capped off a beautifully built sequence. Adrian Palushaj initiated the play near midfield, sliding the ball to Grant Mooradian, who found Zahr in stride for the decisive finish.
The Shamrocks sealed the win with a third goal late in the match. Kei Zarco Yokoyama created danger down the right wing, driving into the box before delivering a pinpoint cross. Palushaj timed his run perfectly, smashing home a one-time finish to secure the 3–1 victory.
