BIOGRAPHY

RON ROZMAN '50

Ron Rozman was the first recipient of the Fr.James H. Whelan Award in 1950, recognizing his attributes as an outstanding Christian gentleman who had excelled both academically and athletically. During his years at CC on Belmont Avenue, Ron was a member of both the Varsity baseball and basketball teams. His baseball teams, led by Hall of Fame coach, Fr.James Martin, C.S.B., won the CHSL Championship each year that he was on the team. The same goes for each of his Varsity basketball seasons. In his senior season, Ron also helped lead the basketball team to the state semifinals. After graduation, Ron drafted by the Detroit Tigers and played professionally as a pitcher from 1951 until 1958, amassing 53 wins. He was on the Major League roster in 1957.
