BIOGRAPHY
DENNIS SPALLA '59
In the two years Denny spent at CC, his athletic accomplishments rank among the best in CC s long line of great student-athletes. Beginning with a boxing championship, Denny garnered All-State honors in Football, was the starting guard on the Basketball team, a sprinter on the Track team, and starred on the CC Baseball team. His CC career culminated in being selected as the Whelan Award winner for 1959. That summer, his Detroit Federation sandlot baseball team represented the State of Michigan and went on to win the National Sandlot Baseball Championship. Denny accepted a baseball scholarship to the University of Michigan, where he played center field, made All-Big Ten, and helped lead Michigan to the 1961 Big Ten Baseball Championship and the 1962 NCAA National Baseball Championship.
