MICHAEL RODRIGUEZ


Coach Rod is one of the most inspiring people to ever Coach at Catholic Central. As CC's Head Wrestling Coach from 1967 to 2007, he amassed a record of 562-250-6, winning 27 Catholic League, 28 District, 12 Regional, and 7 State Championships ('69, '70, 71, '74, '78, '83, '88). Coach Rod developed 37 Individual State Champions, 115 Individual State Placers, and 14 All-Americans. Coach Rod was named Michigan High School Wrestling Coach of the Year 5 times ('69, '71, '74, '78, and '88) and National Coach of the Year in 1972. Coach Rod's Wrestlers accumulated a staggering overall record of 734-272-5. The 734 dual meet victories are the most dual meet victories by any coach in Michigan high school wrestling history. In addition to coaching the CC Wrestling Team, Coach Rod was also Head Golf Coach from 1968 to 1976, winning 2 Catholic League and 3 Regional Championships. He also served as Freshman Football Coach from 1969 to 1971. Coach Rod is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Catholic High School League Hall of Fame in 1987.
