BIOGRAPHY 

JAY WILLIAM SNYDER '78


Jay Snyder, one of nine (9) brothers to graduate from Detroit Catholic Central High School (CC), distinguished himself at CC and beyond as a scholar, athlete, leader, friend, and gentleman. Jay was Captain of oth the 1977 Football team, and 1978 State Championship Wrestling team. 

Jay earned varsity letters in Football, Wrestling, and Track & Field, multiple team awards and was the only football player in CC history to win both the Rugged Jug and MVP in the same season, as well as being named to the 1977 Football All-State team. He was a four (4) year member of thn National Honor Society and the Gabriel Richard Club. Jay was also the student body President 1977-1978. Jay's ultimate individual recognition was winning the Rev. James Whalen Award in 1978. 

Jay graduated from Yale University in 1982 after leading the Eli Football team to three (3) consecutive Ive league Championships earning All-Ivy League honors. Legendary coach Ara Parseghian described Jay as "pound for pound, the toughest linebacker in the country" during a 1981 telecast of the Yale-Navy game which Yale won 23-19. That win propelled the Yale defense to a modern day high of #2 defense in the country.

"Teach me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge" is ingrained in Jay's nature, his attitude, his words, and his actions. He exemplifies what we hope every CC student and alumni become. Jay, also an extraordinarily successfully businessman, has lived his life with a dignity that honors Mary Alma Mater.
