BIOGRAPHY
RAYMOND HERBERT '48
One of Catholic Central's all-time greatest pitchers, Ray Herbert was part of the legend of Fr. Martin Baseball at CC. Ray pitched his team to Catholic League Championships in 1947 and 1948. After his successful high school career, he continued pitching as a professional while playing for the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Athletics, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Philies. His career record included 104 wins, 13 shutouts, 15 saves and 864 strikeouts during his 16 years in the Major League. Ray was named to the 1962 American League All-Star Team and led the majors in shutouts with seven in 1963.
