Hall of Fame
Roy began his football coaching career in 1976 as head coach at Bellaire Middle School; from there he became the defensive back coach for Hillsdale College. In 1983 Roy was appointed Head Coach at Hillsdale High School and finally, in 1986, Coach Dudas moved to Wayne State University (WSU) as defensive back coach and defensive coordinator.
In 1990 Coach Roy Dudas joined the CC staff as the varsity offensive line, defensive line, and kicking game coach. He continued that role for 25 years. He coached countless student-athletes who became outstanding linemen for the Shamrocks – a large number earned scholarships and played college football.
Roy was also a math teacher at CC and coached ten (10) years in the track and field program, helping many compete in college. His commitment to Catholic Central High School and the young men under his direction was enormous. As a teacher and coach, he lived the motto “Teach me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge.” He is a good Christian man who sets an example for his players.
Coach Mach stated: “I believe that every CC football player that worked consistently with Coach Dudas grew into a highly competitive member of our football teams. Roy taught them to go the extra mile and be a loyal and committed team member. Roy’s tenure at CC became a success story as he was a perfect line coach to teach and promote our offensive motto - “The Wham Never Loses Yardage.” Mach continued: “Coach Dudas ensured our motto was enforced at every practice and every game. His toughness as a coach made us all a better team, players, and coaches.”
Coach Dudas was an integral part of the CC football program, significantly contributing to ten (10) MHSAA State Championships, seven (7) State Finals appearances, seventeen Catholic High School League Championships, and twenty MHSAA Regional Championships. Coach Roy Dudas earned the following honors: In 2002 he was chosen CHSL Assistant Coach of the Year, in 2009 Roy was elected to the CHSL Hall of Fame and in 2012 he was elected to the Michigan High School Football Coaches’ Hall of Fame.
We thank Roy for his service to CC and welcome him into the Hall of Fame.
