BIOGRAPHY

BERNARD HOLOWICKI


A true CC legend, Bernie Holowicki established Catholic Central Basketball as one of the premier programs in the State. Serving as CC's Head Basketball Coach from 1971 to 1994, Coach Holowicki achieved a most impressive career record of 612-216 while leading the Shamrocks to 10 Central Division Titles, 6 Catholic League Titles, 16 District Titles, and 4 Regional Titles. His Shamrocks also appeared in 2 State Semi-finals and won the State Championship in 1976. Bernie's players included 3 All-Americans, 13 All-Staters, 30 All-Catholic players, and an impressive 62 All-League players. 25 of his players went on to play at major Division 1 colleges, and five of his players were drafted by the NBA. Coach Holowicki was honored as the CHSL Coach of the Year nine different times throughout his career and in 1986, the National High School Coaches Association named him Midwest Basketball Coach of the Year. Bernie was inducted into the Catholic League Hall of Fame in 1980 and named Catholic League "Person of the Year" in 1986.
