BIOGRAPHY
BILL WIGHTKIN '45
An outstanding all-around athlete, Bill Wightkin made his mark at CC most prominently as a football player. Bill played varsity football in 1942, 1943 and 1944 and earned All-State honors in 1943 and 1944. He was captain of the 1944 team and led that team against Boys' Town in the inaugural Boys' Bowl game in 1944. Bill also played Baseball and Basketball at CC and was the school's heavyweight boxing champion in 1944. Bill received a football scholarship to the University of Notre Dame where he played for legendary coach — Frank Leahy. Bill's Notre Dame teams finished with an overall record of 35-1-1 and won three National Championships. Upon graduating from Notre Dame, Bill was drafted by the Chicago Bears and played for the Bears from 1950 — 1957. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 1955.
