KERRY ZAVAGNIN '92


Considered by many to be the finest soccer player to ever play for CC, Kerry Zavagnin earned All-Catholic, All-State, and Parade All-American honors. As a senior, he captained CC Soccer to a then-best record of 17-3. Kerry also played football and helped the Shamrock football team win the 1990 Class A State Championship and reach the State Finals in 1991. Kerry earned a soccer scholarship to the University of North Carolina, where he became a standout player for the Tar Heels. Upon graduation, Kerry began his professional career with the Raleigh Flyers. In 1997, Kerry joined Major League Soccer (MLS) and played for the New York / New Jersey MetroStars before joining the Kansas City Wizards, where he and his team won the 2000 MLS Cup. In 2004 he was named to the MLS Best XI as one of the league's best players. Kerry played eight seasons for the Wizards in addition to playing for the United States Men's National Team from 2000-2006.
