PAT REID '82


Pat competed the Varsity Football, Varsity Wrestling, Varsity Track & Field Teams. Pat even served as the manager for The Varsity Hockey Team for two seasons. Among all of his endeavors, he is mostly known for his success on the Track & Field Team. Pat competed in the shot put event, winning the Catholic League Championship twice, as well as the Individual Regional Championship in 1982. He qualified for the State Finals three times finally achieved status after finishing in in his senior year. Pat served his team as co-captain during his junior and senior seasons and was named MVP in 1982 after setting the record for shot put (58' 10"), a record that stood until 2007. Pat was voted by his peers as the recipient of the Fr. James H. Whelan Award. Following graduation, Pat competed in the shot put for the University of Tennessee's Track & Field team from 1983 to 1987 where he co-captained in his junior and senior season. He earned All-American honors in 1986, won the Indoor SEC Championship in 1987, and was an NCAA Qualifier in 1985 & 1986. He still [as of 2013] holds the Indoor School Shot Put record. The team won both the Indoor & Outdoor SEC Championships.
