ARTHUR HOUTTEMAN '45
Considered one of the finest pitchers in CC history, Art Houtteman pitched for Catholic Central's Varsity Baseball Team, bringing home three consecutive Catholic League Championship Titles in 1942-1944. Art did not play for CC in his Senior year since he signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers in 1944. Art began pitching for the Tigers in 1945 as the youngest player in American League Baseball that year. During his career with the Tigers, Art was named an American League All Star in 1950. In 1953 he was traded to the Cleveland Indians. In 1954, he posted a 15-7 record and helped lead the Indians to the American League Pennant and a spot in the 1954 World Series where he faced the New York Giants. Art finished his major league career pitching for the Baltimore Orioles in 1957.
