Bob Skrzycki, a member of the Class of 1956, was an exceptional athlete and a great example of perseverance and dedication.  He played basketball for three years, from 1954 to 1956, under the coaching of Hall of Fame Head Coach Bill Foley. During this time, he earned varsity letters for three consecutive years and was instrumental in restoring Catholic Central's dominance as a state power.  Bob's remarkable skills and leadership resulted in three straight state semifinal appearances, and he was even recognized as the first big man in Catholic Central's basketball history. In 1956, Bob's impact was acknowledged with a selection on the Prep All-American team, a testament to his unwavering dedication and lasting impression on the school's legacy.

Bob was an accomplished golfer, earning varsity letters in 1955 and 1956. In 1955, he was the Catholic High School League (CHSL) Golf Champion and won the league's Low Stroke Average award. In 1956, he finished second in the CHSL, just one stroke off the leader.  Later in life, he won 22 city championships in Detroit and Kalamazoo.

Bob achieved success both on and off the court. He excelled as a student-athlete, demonstrating overall excellence. Academically, he ranked third in his class of 1956, which was a remarkable achievement. Additionally, he earned all A's during his senior year.  His dedication to his studies and sports was truly inspiring, reflecting his commitment and discipline.

After being recruited nationwide as an All-American basketball prep, Bob accepted a four-year scholarship from the University of  Michigan. However, in an interesting turn of events, when he visited CC Principal Father Regan to request that his transcripts be forwarded to U. of M., Father looked over the paperwork and threw the papers in the waste basket, adding, "You don't really want to go there!" Bob went on to play basketball with a full scholarship for the University of Notre Dame (ND) from 1957 to 1960.

After earning his degree and completing a successful athletic career at ND, Bob transitioned into a profitable sales career. He has been happily married to Carol Joan since 1966, and they have three daughters: Susan, Sharon, and Sandra. In 1986, he decided to "run away from the wintertime" and moved to North Carolina.

We welcome him into the CC Athletic Hall of Fame, congratulate Bob on his accomplishments, and thank him for contributing to the CC Athletic Legacy.
