Frank Garlicki, a highly respected teacher and coach at Catholic Central (CC), left a lasting impact on the lives of numerous young men.  His talent as a tennis and debate coach was only matched by his excellence as an instructor. His profound understanding of individuals and the games he coached set him apart, leading to enduring connections with those he taught and mentored.

"As a tennis coach, Frank Garlicki didn't just provide skilled coaching; he instilled a winning mentality. He required the boys to play in tournaments over the summer, pushing them to their limits and raising the team's level of play in JV and Varsity.  His guidance wasn't limited to the top players and elite tournaments; he also developed the depth needed to secure two state championships, a testament to his coaching prowess."  Bartels

In the 21 years under Frank Garlicki’s leadership of the CC tennis program, the Shamrocks were Catholic High School League (CHSL) Champions five times, Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Regional Champions 10 times, MHSAA runners-up once (1984), and MHSAA Division I State Champions twice (1985 & 1986).

Walt Bartels, a team captain in 1986, said, “I was so happy that he could reach his goal of winning a tennis state championship.  He was one of the educators who made the Breakfast Drive Campus such a special place.”

In 1986, Frank Garlicki was inducted into the CHSL Hall of Fame. We are proud of him and his accomplishments and recognize his contribution to CC’s academic and athletic legacy by inducting him posthumously into the Catholic Central Athletic Hall of Fame.
