Hall of Fame
Dennis Tymoczko is a legend at Catholic Central (CC). He was a member of the CC Class of 1958. After graduating, he completed his college education and returned to CC as a teacher, coach, and athletic director.
Denny taught English and Religion, inspiring students to think critically and thoughtfully about the world around them. He coached freshman football and basketball and spent a year coaching varsity wrestling. He was known for his dedication to his players, constantly pushing them to be their best while instilling a love of the game.
Amidst his coaching responsibilities, Tymoczko also served as a guidance counselor and disciplinarian at Catholic Central. However, his most significant contribution was his appointment as the school's inaugural lay Athletic Director (AD). As the AD, Denny made a lasting impact on CC athletics. He recruited three coaching legends. He persuaded CC Hall of Fame Wrestling Coach Mike Rodriguez to leave River Rouge, brought CHSL Hall of Fame Track and Cross-Country Coach Tony Magni from
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, and convinced CC Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Bernie Holowicki to leave DeLaSalle. He also encouraged Tom LeGarde ‘73, a CC legend as a CC Hall of Famer, USA Olympic Basketball Gold Medalist, and NCAA and NBA Champion, to attend Catholic Central. Tom wrote in support of Mr. Tymoczko: “As an eighth grader at Christ the King school, I participated in the Christmas grade school tournament, which Mr. Tymoczko ran and supervised. Without that experience, I may never have arrived at CC.” Tom continued, “As a freshman at Catholic Central in 1969–70,
Mr. Tymoczko was important in my first days as a student and an athlete. His positive mentoring has stayed with me all my life.”
When his family grew, Dennis Tymoczko found it necessary to leave CC to pursue a new career as an executive in the material handling industry. Denny and his late wife, Patty, have four children: Michael, Paul, Carrie, and Dennis. He is blessed with 11 grandchildren.
Thanks to Athletic Director Tymoczko's unwavering commitment, Catholic Central's sports have flourished for many years. His leadership sets a high standard for everyone and is characterized by good judgment, diligence, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. His decisions left an enduring impact on countless students and athletes. Today, he is celebrated as one of the all-time greats in Catholic Central's athletic history, a true Hall of Famer. As Tom LeGarde aptly put it, 'He is a Shamrock Jewel.'
